What is the treatment for hair fall in both Men and Women?

We know that hair loss can be distressing to both men and women alike. We have glorified good hair as a marker of youth and good health in our society. So if you are too stressed about losing a lot of hair daily, worried about thinning of hair, receding hairline, or going bald, this short blog will help you understand how to control and prevent hair fall and what the treatment options for hair loss are.

1. It is normal to lose a little hair every day

Almost all of us notice hair loss when we comb and find hair stuck to the hairbrush or at the time of the shower when we see a lot of hair near the drain. Both men and women typically lose 80-100 hair from the head daily. These are the hair that is shed after completing its growth by passing through all the stages of the hair cycle and are replaced by new hair. You cannot stop or prevent this kind of hair loss as it is a part of the normal process of hair growth.

2. Identify the cause of your hair fall

Hair fall can be because of genetic factors (where baldness or sparse, thin hair runs in your family), environmental and lifestyle factors (pollution, smoking, stress, etc.), or medical reasons (Dietary deficiencies, medical diseases, hormonal imbalance, drugs, aging, etc.). We have noticed that it is not one but a combination of factors that can contribute to hair fall in our patients, and hence a multi-modality approach is the best way to treat it.

3. Visit a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist

Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists are best trained to treat hair loss and perform hair transplants. They will help identify the right cause of hair fall by physical examination (Tug/Pull Test), Trichoscopic Analysis (Examination of hair and scalp under magnification), and Blood tests to rule out various medical causes of hair loss. The common medical conditions causing hair loss are iron deficiency anemia, thyroid diseases, Polycystic Ovarian Disease PCOD, Zinc and Vitamin deficiencies, Hormonal imbalances, etc.).

4. Medical Management of Hair Loss

Identifying and treating the cause helps reduce and prevent further hair fall in most cases. Apart from dietary and lifestyle modifications, certain hair supplements are started which are required to support the growth and maintain healthy hair. Certain medications known to prevent hair fall and promote hair growth like minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride, etc. are started after a thorough medical examination and explaining the side effects.

5. Adjuvant therapies to reduce hair fall and stimulate hair growth

These treatments, when performed at regular intervals over multiple sessions, help prevent hair fall and stimulate hair growth. These include microneedling,  enriched with additional growth factors, Mesotherapy, Low-level laser therapy, etc.

Microneedling helps improve the blood supply to your scalp.

Platelet-rich plasma releases growth factors necessary to stimulate hair growth, improve blood supply, and boost the microenvironment.

In mesotherapy for hair or Mesohair, vitamins, pharmaceuticals, enzymes, hormones, natural plant extracts, bioactive substances, Nanopeptides, Acetyl tetrapeptide-3, Vitamins, Biochanin- A, Minoxidil, Dutasteride, Finasteride, Dexenol, etc. are injected into the scalp in various combinations using fine microneedles. Mesotherapy improves the microcirculation of the scalp, provides nutrients and medication that stimulate hair growth, slow down the shrinkage of hair follicles, and reduces hair fall.

Low-level lasers are known to stimulate hair follicles, reduce hair fall and promote hair growth.

6. Hair Transplant is a safe and excellent treatment for baldness

If you have already lost a significant amount of hair or are suffering from baldness, a hair transplant allows you to regrow your hair and restore your hairline naturally. For areas with sparse hair and visible scalp, a hair transplant improves the density of hair and prevents any bald patches from being seen. The hair follicles are taken from the back of your scalp and are rarely affected by hair loss. These hair are usually resistant to hair fall; hence most transplanted hair retain these characteristics and are the last to fall. FUE and FUT are two common techniques of hair transplant. Occasionally a combination of techniques is required for large-volume hair transplants. We are skilled at both these techniques, however, prefer the FUE technique for our hair transplants.

Your 10 points guide to Beautiful Lips with Lip Fillers

Lip Fillers are the best way to get plump & sexy lips.

If you have been drooling over the luscious lips of celebrities and influencers, you follow on instagram and have been wanting to show off that perfect pout yourself, this short guide to getting plump and sexy lips will help you. Cosmetic products such as lip serums, lip plumper’s & lip gloss hydrate the lips and enhance its appearance. However, they cannot add volume if you have thin lips, or improve the shape of your lips. Dermal lip fillers are the best way to achieve natural-appearing plump lips. Here are some facts you should know before you decide to ger Lip fillers.

1.  Know more about dermal fillers.

Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the human body. It plays a vital role in skin elasticity, volume and hydration. The dermal fillers are synthetically prepared and are non-animal products. Special hyaluronic acid products have been designed for lips to give an incredibly natural feel and look.

2. Find your reason to get Lip Fillers.

The commonest reason to get lip fillers are thin, parched lips. The lips lose volume as we age and become thin with fine wrinkles. Some women are not so gifted in the lips department and have thin lips from a very young age. Women from their 20s-60s commonly request lip fillers to replenish volume and get a youthful, plump appearance. Women wishing a slight pout to subtly add a bit of sensuous appeal to their beautiful face is another common request. Shaping the lips to ideal proportions with more defined borders is often requested by some who aren’t happy with their lips. We have also received requests from men as well who want an improvement in their lips.

3. Choose the best place for Lip Fillers in Mumbai.

It is imperative to do your homework and check the qualifications of your doctor before you plan lip fillers. A board-certified aesthetic plastic surgeon or a cosmetic dermatologist are best qualified and trained to perform lip filler injections. They should be able to answer all your questions and discuss the results that can be achieved. An inexperienced or unqualified aesthetician could leave you with uneven, unattractive or unnatural lips. We take time to understand the goals and desires of our patients and are upfront in explaining what can be achieved with the course of treatment and number of treatments required to achieve the desired result. We believe less is more and prefer to inject a small quantity of fillers over multiple sessions to achieve the natural, beautiful plump appearance of the lips than single-shot lip filling that can sometimes lead to duck lips.

4. The Insta Pout and beautiful lips come at a price.

These high-quality fillers meant exclusively for your lips sold by standard companies world over like Allergan, Galderma or Merz do not come cheap. Don’t get lured by steep discounts or cheap pricing and avoid getting it done at the spa-like setups. It is not worth saving money on your lip fillers at the risk of getting infections, unattractive uneven lips or worse complications that can leave permanent effects on your face. Cheap fillers can be fake products putting your body at unknown risks. We only use the best quality products from top companies like Allergan, Galderma and Merz aesthetics to get the most natural results for your lips.

5. Fillers are not permanent.

The effect of lip fillers is temporary and lasts 6-12 months. As the dermal fillers are naturally present in our body, they are broken down by a natural enzyme present in our body called hyaluronidase. As the effect of lip fillers begins to wear off, your lips start returning to its original shape and size before using it. The great thing about lip fillers is that it usually has a cumulative effect and at most times some amount of lip filler is retained at the time of your next treatment if you visit at timely intervals.

6. Be aware of the potential side-effects.

Some amount of bruising and swelling after lip fillers is to be expected. The tendency to bruise varies from person to person, however avoiding blood thinners, pain killers, vitamin E, fish oil at least 3 days before the procedure reduces the risk. It can be easily concealed with some makeup if need be. The swelling usually resolves in 1-3 days with ice pack application. Occasionally slight lumpiness may be felt which will settle down with massage by the doctor. An allergic reaction is rare as hyaluronic acid is naturally present in our body. Infection is also a rare complication. There is always a chance of intravascular injection causing skin necrosis while using dermal fillers, but the possibility of such a complication in experienced & qualified hands of plastic surgeons or dermatologists, well versed with anatomy and injection technique is exceedingly low.

7. No Pain, No Gain

Everyone’s pain threshold is different, but most people feel a sharp pinch as the needle is inserted, and slight pressure is felt as the filler is being injected. A numbing cream is applied over the lips 30 mins before the procedure to minimise any discomfort. We use very fine needles for injecting with precision and minimise pain.

8. Know what to expect after Lip fillers

Lip fillers are office-based procedures and take about 20-30 minutes with instantaneous results. The lips are massaged gently after the procedure to disperse the filler evenly and avoid any lumps or bumps. The lips feel firm to touch and appear overfilled immediately after the procedure; however, the lip softens as the swelling subsides to give you a natural-looking result over the next 2 weeks. Slight numbness and itching may be felt, which subsides on its own. The sensations of your lips should feel normal on kissing, drinking or eating as it would have felt without the lip filling.

9. Aftercare is easy to follow

  • Avoid touching, massaging or rubbing your lips for a few days after lip fillers to avoid filler displacement.
  • Apply ice to your lips intermittently for 24 hours after the procedure.
  • Keep your head end elevated while sleeping.
  • Avoid alcohol and exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid hot bath, eating or drinking anything hot for a few hours after the procedure.

10. Don’t fret if you are unhappy with the result.

The final result of lip fillers can be expected by 2 weeks after the procedure. If you feel the plump doesn’t suit you or are unhappy with the result, it is not a cause of concern. Lip fillers can be dissolved completely by injecting hyaluronidase enzyme which breaks down the hyaluronic acid fillers. As all the filler in the lips gets dissolved, the lips return to pre-injection status.
