The surgery is performed under general or spinal anaesthesia and takes approximately 2-4 hours. The surgery involves removing excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen below the umbilicus and tightening the abdominal wall muscles.
The upper abdomen skin is pulled down and sutured to give a taut and well-toned abdomen. In case you have a good skin tone and a small amount of skin excess or sag below the umbilicus, a mini-abdominoplasty is performed through a much smaller incision.
Any previous C-section scar is removed and incorporated into the abdominoplasty scar. Liposuction can be performed along with this procedure to address other areas of fat excess. Tubes may be placed, if necessary, to avoid the collection of blood or fluid and are removed after 24-48 hours. A Compression garment is applied.
Following your surgery, you will be under observation until you are fully awake, pain-free, and comfortable. A Flexed position with the head end of bed raised and two pillows under your knees is given.
This position prevents any tension on your suture line and allows better recovery. A bent position is advised for 7-10 days after surgery for the same. The patient is encouraged to stand and walk with support the same day of surgery to prevent blood clots and early recovery.
Compression garments are advised for a minimum of 12 weeks. The result of surgery is immediately visible and improves over the next 3-6 months once all the swelling reduces and skin redrapes to a more firmer and taut contour.

What is a mini tummy tuck?
A mini tummy tuck is performed for patients without much extra loose skin and does not need tightening on their abdominal muscles as in full tummy tuck. As less skin needs to be removed, there is a short hidden scar, shorter recovery period, significantly less pain and discomfort.
Will my stretch marks be visible post-surgery?
Most women have stretch marks below the umbilicus, a part which gets removed by a tummy tuck. This skin is replaced by clear upper abdominal skin, giving you a well-contoured tummy without marks. However, if your stretch marks extend above the umbilicus, they may be visible in the lower part of the abdomen.
