Buccal/Cheek fat pad excision or bichectomy is performed as a daycare procedure and can be performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia. The procedure typically takes approximately 20-40 mins. The surgery is performed through a small incision made inside your mouth. The cheek fat pads are teased out and trimmed. An absorbable suture is placed inside the mouth.
Since it’s a daycare procedure, the patient is observed for a few hours post-procedure and discharged the same evening. Some amount of bruising and swelling is expected post-surgery. The swelling usually resolves by 50% within one-week post-procedure and by 70-90% in 3-6 weeks.
