The secret to smooth, glowing, flawless, and youthful skin is following an excellent skincare program complemented with skin treatments to repair, restore, and rejuvenate the skin. Skin resurfacing procedures remove the skin’s outermost layers to allow fresh, glowing skin to regrow. A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing procedure where a chemical solution is used to peel off and exfoliate the outer layer of the skin.
Skin resurfacing can be performed manually by dermabrasion, with the help of lasers or by chemical peeling. Chemical peels are outpatient, office-based procedures to exfoliate the damaged skin and achieve smoother younger-looking skin. It can be combined with other cosmetic procedures.
Depending on the extent of skin damage and desired results, chemical peels can be selected to reach appropriate skin depth – superficial, medium, and deep. Different chemical peel solutions can be used with variable concentrations for the same.

Chemical peeling takes about 15 mins. Deeper peels need to be performed under sedation. The skin is cleansed first. The chemical peel solution is applied lightly over the skin surface. The patient may feel a slight tingling, stinging, or mild burning sensation in deep peels.
The skin is observed during the process; once the desired result is achieved, it is neutralised and then cleansed. Deeper peels may need protective cream/ointment to be applied.
Sun protection for 2 weeks and sunscreen (SPF 30) is advised. Makeup should be avoided until recovery. The skin begins to peel and exfoliate over the next few days and may take a couple of weeks in case of deeper peels until a fresh, smooth, and glowing skin resurfaces.
Light peels usually produce some redness, swelling, and peeling after a few days. Deeper peels may form scabs, occasionally a blister and peel over the next few weeks.
Ice packs and pain killers are advised to reduce discomfort. A skincare regime with protective cream/ointment is recommended.
